민설계는 1970년, 민영백 회장이 서울의 비원 앞에 있는 조그마한 한옥에서 단 한 명의 직원을 둔 인테리어 디자인 설계 전문회사를 설립하면서 시작되었습니다. 한국적 디자인의 전통성을 현대 디자인과 조화를 이루는데 노력해 왔으며 절제된 표현과 여백의 아름다움을 공간에 표현하는 디자인을 발전시켜 왔습니다.
민설계는 우리나라에서 제일 처음 주한외국기업의 실내디자인을 의뢰 받은 회사가 되었으며, 이를 수 많은 프로젝트들을 성공적으로 수행하여, 1980년대에 이르러서는 국내에서 활동하는 외국기업으로부터 인정받는 회사로 발돋움 하였습니다.
1990년대에 들어서면서 실내 디자인 시장의 변화에 대응하고 조직을 보다 전문화하기 위하여 Coordination Team과 C.G. Team 그리고 건축설계 본부를 증설하여 전문성 확보 및 체계적인 조직체계를 갖추어 세계적인 디자인 회사를 발전할 수 있는 근간을 마련하였습니다.
2000년대에 들어서면서 Min Associates 민영백 회장의 국내 및 해외에서의 활동은 민설계의 명성을 한층 향상시키는 계기가 되었으며 한국 디자인의 아름다움을 세계적으로 알릴 수 있는 중요한 기회가 되었습니다. 민설계는 한국적 전통성과 현대디자인의 조화를 기본으로 인간 중심의 디자인, 새로운 문화디자인 창조에 기여할 수 있는 기업이 되도록 꾸준히 발전해 나갈 것입니다.
Min Associates was founded in 1970 by Chairman Young-Baek Min, who established a specialized interior design firm with just one employee in a small hanok (traditional Korean house) located in front of Seoul's Secret Garden (Biwon). Since its inception, the firm has strived to harmonize the traditional aesthetics of Korean design with modern sensibilities, developing designs that express restrained elegance and the beauty of negative space within various environments.
Min Associates became the first company in Korea to be commissioned for interior design projects by foreign enterprises based in the country. Successfully completing numerous projects, the firm gained recognition from international corporations operating in Korea by the 1980s.
In response to changes in the interior design market during the 1990s, Min Associates expanded its organization to enhance specialization, establishing a Coordination Team, a C.G. (Computer Graphics) Team, and an Architectural Design Division. This restructuring laid the foundation for the firm’s growth into a global design company with a systematic and professional framework.
Entering the 2000s, Chairman Young-Baek Min's activities both domestically and internationally further elevated Min Associates' reputation, offering key opportunities to promote the beauty of Korean design on a global scale. Min Associates continues to evolve, contributing to human-centered design and the creation of new cultural designs while maintaining the harmony between Korean tradition and contemporary aesthetics as its core principle.
